Modern sheer blinds are loved for their soft, light‑filled look. Sheer and Voile blinds are designed using translucent fabrics that gently diffuse natural daylight, helping to create bright, welcoming spaces that feel comfortable and calm throughout the day.

With several different styles to explore, each offering its own balance of light control, privacy and design, this guide explains what sheer and Voile blinds are, how they work, and how to choose the right sheer blind for your home.

How window orientation affects sheer blinds

Before choosing a sheer blind style, it’s helpful to think about how much natural light your windows receive. Window orientation plays an important role in how a room feels - and how sheer blinds perform.

North-facing windows receive softer, more consistent light and can sometimes feel cooler or darker. Lighter Voile and sheer fabrics work best here, helping to maximise available daylight and keep spaces feeling bright and airy.

South-facing windows receive stronger, more direct sunlight throughout the day. Layered sheer designs help soften glare and brightness without blocking light completely, creating a more comfortable environment.

East and west-facing windows experience changing light levels as the sun moves. Adjustable sheer blind styles are ideal for these spaces, allowing you to shift easily between filtered light and increased privacy.

Once you understand how the light behaves in your home, it becomes much easier to choose the right sheer blind style for each room.

Diffused blinds

This luxurious option combines the soft folds of curtains with the practicality of blinds. Sheer and opaque soft fabric panels hang in a similar way to curtains and can be adjusted with a simple wand. With a gentle twist, light filters through the sheer section of the fabric, or through the opaque section when more privacy is needed.

They're a practical choice for large windows and doors, like bifolds and sliding doors, as they can be made to cover wide expanses of glass. The free-hanging panels can be separated for easy access through doors. When you want to open the space fully, simply use the wand to push the blind neatly to one side.

Triple Shade blinds

Venetian blinds are brilliant at controlling light and privacy levels, but for some, the design can seem a little too stark. That's where Triple Shade blinds come into their own.

They feature a double layer of beautiful sheer fabric with a soft fabric vane in between. When the vane is open, the light will gently filter through. Tilt the vane to the closed position for greater control over light and privacy. Triple Shade blinds can also be motorised for easy control with a remote and made smart‑home compatible when paired with a Somfy smart hub, allowing control via voice commands, an app or a smart‑home system.

Day and Night blinds

Day and Night blinds - also known as zebra blinds - are a popular choice for contemporary interiors. They combine sheer and opaque fabrics within a single blind, using alternating horizontal panels to create their structured look, which suits modern homes particularly well.

Day and Night blinds are ideal for open‑plan living spaces, home offices where screen glare can be an issue, and street‑facing rooms where daytime privacy is important. Smart electric options are great for larger windows and added convenience.

Voile Roman blinds

Voile blinds are made using lightweight, translucent Voile fabrics, and Voile Roman blinds combine these with the tailored shape of a classic Roman blind. When raised, the fabric folds into soft, elegant pleats; when lowered, it hangs smoothly for a clean, refined finish.

Voile Roman blinds are particularly effective in living rooms, dining spaces and bay windows, where they add softness. For extra comfort, they can be layered with cosy curtains, creating a calmer, more cocooned feel.

Sheer Roller blinds

Modern and wonderfully understated, sheer Roller blinds soften daylight while maintaining views outside. Made from fine, translucent fabrics such as softly woven polyester or subtly textured sheers, they’re designed to filter natural light while keeping spaces feeling open and bright.

These light‑filtering fabrics help reduce glare without darkening the room, creating spaces that feel bright, calm and inviting. Their clean design makes sheer Roller blinds particularly well suited to larger windows and patio doors, with electric options allowing you to adjust light levels at the touch of a button. They can also be teamed with Roman blinds or curtains for a lovely, layered look.

Fly Screens

Fly Screens are a simple but transformative addition to your home. They allow fresh air and natural light to flow in while keeping insects out.

Designed to work seamlessly with windows, patio doors and bi‑folds, Fly Screens are especially useful in kitchens, living spaces and bedrooms where ventilation matters most. When not in use, they fold neatly away for a clean, unobtrusive finish.

Sheer Blind Screen®

Blind Screen® brings light control, comfort and flexibility together in a single solution. Softly structured sheer honeycomb fabrics are available to gently filter daylight while offering useful daytime privacy.

Their clean, understated look works beautifully in modern interiors. For added versatility, a Sheer Blind Screen® design can be combined with a blackout, thermal or Fly Screen fabric within the same frame.

Creating calm, comfortable spaces with sheer blinds

Modern sheer blinds do far more than control light. Made from Voile, sheer woven fabrics or soft‑structured materials, they help shape the atmosphere of your home by softening sunlight, improving privacy and reducing glare.

Whether you’re dressing a street‑facing window, a bright open‑plan space or a cosy living room, the right sheer blind can transform how your home looks and feels, creating interiors that are calm, comfortable and effortlessly welcoming.
