Our tips for curtain poles and tracks

If you’d like to make the most of your view and the natural light, ask your advisor to extend your curtain pole or curtain track beyond the window frame.
To make your windows appear taller, your advisor can position your curtain pole as high as possible.
For a luxurious layered look, choose double curtain poles or curtain tracks, which allow you to pair Voiles with thicker curtains.
If you have a bay window, your advisor can share a choice of flexible curtain tracks, or special curtain poles for this feature window.

What curtains go on a track?: With most of our curtain range, you have the choice of a curtain track or a pole. The exceptions are wave curtains, which are designed to be hung on a track, and eyelet curtains, which are designed to be hung on a pole.
Can you put a curtain pole in a bay window?: Yes, we've a selection of curtain poles that are suitable for bay windows, as well as flexible curtain tracks. Your advisor will recommend the right curtain pole or track from our range to help you make the most of this beautiful feature.
How long should a curtain pole be?: A curtain pole should always be longer than a window, so the curtains don't obstruct any natural light. To really make the most of your view and any sunlight, ask your Hillarys advisor to extend your curtain pole even further. They'll have lots of useful recommendations, based on your individual windows.
How to remove curtain pole ends?: Most curtain rail ends - known as finials - unscrew from the curtain rod. With a Hillarys advisor, you don't need to worry about this, as they’ll do everything for you. From hanging the curtains to adding curtain rings and a decorative finial if you've chosen them, it’s all included as part of the service.
Can you attach a curtain pole or track to the ceiling?: Yes, it’s possible to do this. Curtain tracks are a great choice if there’s not much space between your window and the ceiling. Your advisor can talk you through all your window dressing options, and help you pick a solution that’s right for you.
Can you paint a wooden or metal curtain pole?: If you're confident with DIY, there are ways of painting wooden and metal curtain rails. For an easier life, why not pick your favourite finish from our range and let your Hillarys advisor do the hard work for you? There’s no risk of getting it wrong that way.
What is the best curtain track for heavy curtains?: At your in-home appointment, your advisor will share helpful recommendations for all parts of the process, from picking a fabric to the best ways to hang curtains. If you choose a heavy curtain fabric, they'll recommend a heavier-duty curtain track or pole.
