Lacy Looks

Let your décor be inspired by catwalk trends

Tara Hall by Tara Hall

As the clothes we see on the catwalk increasingly influence the way we decorate our rooms, home interest magazines have begun to mirror their high-fashion counterparts. Each month, we will take an in-depth look at an emerging trend and offer inspirational ideas on ways to use this in your home.

Many designers drew upon imagery, architecture and clothing from eras gone by when putting together their collections for autumn / winter 2013. A number paid homage to classic art and craft techniques in their designs
Catwalk style lace -

Lace, crochet and rich embellishments all made an appearance in the A/W shows. While these are usually viewed as activities that a grandmother may enjoy, they were given a modern flavour with simple shapes and sleek lines

The historical update has now been picked up by the high street too. This means that shoppers are likely to encounter plenty of pearlescent accents and ornate detailing when they brave the January Sales

If you fancy yourself as something of a historian, then this trend is easy to apply to interiors as well as outfits. Putting together a moodboard is a great way of collating all of your decorating ideas.

When creating your own moodboard, it’s important to collect a few key images which inspire you. These might be the latest catwalk snaps or homely pictures that you found in a magazine. Next, hunt out fabric or wallpaper swatches which fit in with this scheme. Mixing and matching different materials in your room will create a fabulous tactile feel

In our living room, a Roller blind featuring a lace print provides a beautiful contemporary take on the style. We then teamed the Lomas Taupe blind with contrasting textures to complete the effect

Finally, just as an outfit would not be complete without the right shoes or statement jewellery, picking out complementary accessories adds the perfect finishing touch to your room. We chose matching curtain tie-backs and a selection of cushions in the same colour-way, but the options are endless

Lacy fabrics are a wonderful choice for your home, as they have a lovely intricate appearance. Traditionally, patterned net curtains were used to create a detailed look at your window, but these can seem a little old fashioned

And don’t worry if lace isn’t your cup of tea, as there are plenty of other ways to embrace your inner historian. Instead, you could focus on the embellishment aspect of the trend. In our dressing room, we picked out sumptuous full length curtains in a luxurious embossed material. The Scramble Sun design will add an air of opulence to your windows
