Do wooden shutters block noise?

Yes. The thickness and density of wood has natural sound proofing qualities, which helps to reduce road traffic noise at windows facing the street or at street-level.

Are wooden shutters blackout?

Wooden shutters are a really effective window covering when it comes to blocking out light. When closed they provide a brilliant level of darkness to a room, although slight tolerance gaps are required for the smooth functioning of your shutters so bear in mind this can cause small amounts of light bleed at the edges.

Choosing larger louvres for your shutters means there are fewer gaps for light to travel through. You can also layer shutters with a pair of curtains or a Roman blind. The pairing not only looks great, but can be extremely effective in blocking out light completely.

They fit snugly at your window, helping to reduce draughts that can slip through the gaps in your frames by providing a barrier at your window that keeps the cold out and the warmth in. We worked with the experts at Salford University to understand how our products can help prevent heat loss. The results from their specially created lab, the 'Energy House' showed that our shutters reduce heat loss by 36%. In the months of summer, wooden shutters are great for keeping rooms cool too. Tilt the louvres closed when the sun is at its hottest to keep your space at a comfortable temperature.
