What are electric blinds?

Electric blinds are fitted with a discreet motorised control system that lets you open and close all your electric blinds at once with just the touch of a button, You can choose a battery operated remote control or a simple wall switch.

They are also smart compatible, giving you even greater flexibility to control the light, privacy and security in your home via a mobile app or voice control.

To make your electric blinds smart you'll need a Somfy Smart Hub connected to your mobile phone, Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. We'll get into that a little later in this guide.

Why go electric?

An effortless solution:

Lots of our customers tell us it’s the freedom and convenience that they love most about motorised blinds. They are a super helpful solution if your windows are in awkward places like behind furniture, or high up out of reach in a conservatory or at a bay window. This also makes them perfectly suited for customers with mobility issues.

Perfect for families:

If you have young children or pets you’ll know that they're not always the perfect partners for blinds with operating chains!

Electric blinds offer a great child-friendly solution. With the motor hidden inside the headrail and wirelessly connected to a remote control or your smart device, everything is neat and tidy, and there’s no operating chains to worry about.

Sleek and stylish:

One of the standout features of remote control blinds is their sleek and cordless design. Without visible cords, they'll give a really clean and modern look at your windows and with so many choices in our range you'll find a blind that works with your space, whatever your interior style.

What are smart blinds?

Any of our electric blinds can be smart. You just need a good internet connection across your home and a Somfy Smart Hub. This is an additional accessory allowing you to link your electric blinds to a mobile app or your smart home device like an Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Our easy to follow guide will help you get set up.

It's a good idea to keep the remote control your electric blinds came with handy as you'll need it to program the Hub. You’ll also need a remote as a backup in case you experience internet connection issues!

Once programmed you'll be able to control your blinds without lifting a finger, and from anywhere in the world. You can also integrate your blinds with your other devices such as lights and heating to create your perfect smart home environment.

Why smart blinds?

Boost your home security:

Pairing your electric blinds to a Somfy hub lets you control your blinds with ease, even when you're not at home.

Through your mobile phone, you can use the timer function to program your automatic blinds to open and close at set times of the day. Time them to lower at night and rise in the morning and you’ll stop your home looking empty while you’re enjoying a trip away.

Master your sleep routine:

There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to fall asleep in a room that’s not quite dark.

Electric blinds provide excellent coverage across the whole of your window so less light leaks in through the sides.

Choose a blackout lining to minimise light levels even further for a restful setting.

Sun shield:

A little sunshine is good for the soul, but prolonged exposure to lots of sunlight can be damaging to your furniture, carpets and even hanging pictures and photos on display.

Setting your blinds to close when the sun is shining directly into your room - especially when you’re not home to enjoy it yourself - can really help extend their life and keep them from getting sun-bleached for a lot longer.
