Bay Window Shutters

Tara Hall by Tara Hall

As well as being a focal point for a room, bay windows let in lots of lovely natural light and help create that feeling of space. Our made-to-measure shutters are a great choice for bays as they’ll fit your windows perfectly, look great and last for many years to come.

Read our expert guide for top tips when choosing shutters for the bay windows in your home.

A perfect pairing to period features

Bays are often found in period properties, so the classic look of shutters make them a perfect match for this type of window. The wooden panels beautifully complement original features like dado rails and cornicing, and you can even choose a heritage shade to enhance the overall look. But shutters aren’t limited to traditional properties, contemporary bays will benefit just as much from their hand-finished quality and timeless appeal.

The energy efficient option for large bays

With three large windows and, often, single-glazing, bays can make a room feel cold and draughty. Shutters provide a layer of insulation at your windows, helping to block out any unwanted chills. They’re also great at reducing noise, so make a good choice for bedroom bays, where creating a cosy and tranquil environment is key.

Protecting your privacy

While bays are great for flooding your home with natural light, large, angled windows can often mean your space gets overlooked. But choose shutters and you’ll have lots of options to keep prying eyes out. Tier-on-tier shutters and café-style shutters are perfect for bay windows that look out onto the street as the bottom panels stop anyone from peering in, while light can still flood in from the top, but any shutter style will offer excellent privacy control. This living room benefits from the flexibility of full height shutters - the two side panels are closed for privacy while the central shutter is pulled-back to let the light stream in. Your advisor will help you choose the shutter style that best meets your individual needs.

Pay attention to slat width

The slats you choose for your bay window shutters will affect more than just their look. A large slat width, as seen in this contemporary living room, will let a lot of natural light filter through, whereas a slimmer slat will let in slightly less. We offer five different slat width options for our shutters, from 47mm up to 114mm. Your advisor will help you select the one that’s right for you.
