Thermal curtains are made with an extra lining that helps to reduce heat loss through your windows. This thermal lining is a fabric with a single acrylic coating that reduces the amount of heat which can be lost by transmission through the fabric. Thermal linings offer a fuller appearance, and plenty of practical benefits like extra privacy, plus they help to reduce fading and to block incoming light too.
Thermal curtains aren't just for keeping your home warm in winter, they'll also help to keep things cool in summer. In the same way they reduce the amount of heat that escapes through windows when it's cold, thermal curtains can also prevent heat from entering a room when outdoor temperatures are high, making them a great all year round solution to keep your home comfortable.
All of our curtain fabrics are dry clean only, but there are plenty of ways to keep your thermal curtains fresh for longer. The easiest way to clean your thermal curtains is to use the soft brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner, designed for furniture and upholstery. A hand held steam cleaner can also be used to remove any creases or wrinkles. Our curtains cleaning guide contains more handy hints on caring for your thermal curtains.
Thermal curtains add an extra layer of insulation to your windows so they're a great way of stopping heat from escaping and cold air from coming in. We'll make your curtains to the exact dimensions of your window so you'll get a good coverage all around the frame to help stop draughts getting in through any gaps. For maximum impact, make sure you close your curtains as soon as the sun goes down to keep your room warm.
The likelihood of condensation at your windows depends on a few factors like the indoor temperature, outdoor temperature and humidity levels. If indoor humidity levels are high and warm moist air comes into contact with a cold surface, condensation may occur. Thermal curtains can potentially contribute to this if they prevent warm indoor air from reaching the windows. Adequate ventilation is crucial to control indoor humidity levels so make sure you allow some air circulation around your windows by slightly opening curtains or blinds during the day.
