What does a local design consultant do?

  • As a specialist local advisor, you’ll be helping our customers transform their homes with our range of premium products, including shutters, awnings and conservatory blinds.
  • You’ll visit customers in your local area, giving them help and advice in choosing new products for their home. From deciding on colour schemes to giving expert recommendations on motorisation or thermal properties, you’ll use all of the skills and knowledge gained during your training.
  • You’ll take approximate measurements for a quote, before scheduling a survey appointment with a specialist installer.
  • We’ll support you by organising your first appointments for you, but to maximise your earning potential, you’ll learn to generate your own business.

What skills and experience do I need?

  • You will go through our tailored foundation training course in Nottingham, which will teach you all you need to succeed. You’ll also have the support of an experienced advocate, who will accompany you on your first few appointments to build your confidence.
  • The training programme is made up of 3 parts; Begin, Believe, Become. This is designed to build your product portfolio, learning the core competences along the way. We focus the training on selling with product expertise, measuring, installation and technology. 
  • Hillarys also use a bespoke selling application in home; SAMSON is an award winning application that will provide customers with instant quotes and orders. This also helps you manage your day to day customer diary and sales.
  • Every advisor is also invited back for on-going training. This may be for new product launches, a refresher on a product or new technology that can advance your business. You’ll also benefit from an online community website and eLearning platform.

How much can I earn?

You’ll need £2,500 to start your business. This covers all the training and tools needed to get your business going plus ongoing support from us.  You’ll make this money back through your customer appointments - our most successful design consultants earn more than £60,000 a year.
