Writing on RentalDecorating.com, design expert Sarah Van Arsdale, from Sheffield School of Interior Design, picked out a living room she believed effectively used a lemony colour scheme to refresh a room.
Matching Roman blinds with furniture made easier with iPhone app
Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010A new iPhone application will make it easier for homeowners to match Roman blinds with new furniture.
Homeowners will soon be able to use a new augmented reality iPhone application to match their Roman blinds with new furniture.
The new Furnish Your Photo application, developed by mydeco and Dassault Systemes, enables homeowners to choose between hundreds of 3D representations of furniture, which they can use to plan their room design.
Anyone with an iPhone can use the app to visualise how a piece of furniture will look in a room, to scale.
On its initial release, homeowners will only be able to choose between 500 3D models to compared against their made to measure blinds.
However, mydeco has committed to expanding the range to 75,000 3D models in the future.
Mydeco executive chairman Brent Hoberman said: “By positioning the sofa exactly where you want it, you can get a really good idea of whether it’s going to work in your home before you even shop for it.
“It’s like a virtual fitting room for your living room.”
For those without an iPhone, mydeco also offers a similar 3D room planner on its website, enabling users to decide where their furniture would go in a proposed refurbishment

There are so many things you can do to improve your home and they don’t have to be difficult or complicated, so here are some ideas on how to transform the space in your home for a minimal cost.
Venetians and vertical blinds
Vertical and Venetian blinds are a great way to turn one room into two. It is also very cost effective. Create a walk-in dressing room in no time or you could even make your own little “quiet” corner with minimal effort. A great place to start looking is Hillarys who have a wide range of these blinds to choose from regardless of what style you are looking for.
Roller blinds
Another great way to save space is to install roller blinds as wardrobe doors, or any other door for that matter. No swinging doors, nothing to obstruct it and it looks great as well, so why not have a look around and see what would work for you!

Ms Conway recently sent us some photos of her vertical blinds in action she says ‘I have a large bay window at the front of my home and wanted blinds to block out the light however i didn’t want to loose the bay by having blinds that went across like curtains’ our expert local advisor went round and measured and fitted a curved bay for her which went round the bay window rather than covering it up.
Ms Conway says she was very pleased with the results and will be getting the rest of her house done. As you can see from the photo below the blinds really add to her home.

How to clean your window blinds
Friday, April 4th, 2008Let’s face it – Cleaning windows and window blinds is one of those jobs that we tend to put to the end of the list when it comes to spring cleaning. We tend to get round to cleaning window blinds when it’s a monumental task rather than doing it regularly when it wouldn’t be such a problem.So I thought a short guide to cleaning most window blinds quickly and easily would come in handy.
Venetian Window Blinds
You should completely remove Venetian blinds from your window probably once or twice a year and place them in a bath tub full of warm soapy water. Be sure to rinse them thoroughly afterwards and remove all the soap or your blinds may turn yellow over time in.
In the real world you don’t always have the time to do this – so you can wipe them (while still hanging) with a mixture of vinegar and water, or a citrus based cleaner (definitely not a furniture polish), a micro fibre cloth, or you can use vacuum cleaner with an attachment designs specifically for cleaning blinds. Be gentle though vacuum cleaners can bend and break blinds if not used carefully.
