Keep furniture and window blinds simple and neutral for girls’ bedrooms

When decorating a girl’s bedroom, choose furniture and blinds that are simple and neutral.

Simplicity and neutral colours are key when decorating a girl’s bedroom, in terms of the choice of furniture and window blinds.

To create a child’s multi-zoned bedroom that is ideal for sleeping, studying and relaxing, simple off-white wood furniture works well, according to tips from Ideal Home Magazine.

Using neutral colours for elements in the room such as carpet, walls, blinds and accessories is also advised.

The addition of bright accent colours in the form of hot pink, coral and zesty lime accessories can also look striking against neutral colours.

Another fan of using neutral colours in contemporary bedrooms is freelance journalist Stephanie Nolan.

Writing on Associatedcontent.com, Ms Nolan said that when it comes to contemporary style decorating, “less is more”. Colour is kept to a minimum and bedrooms often have just one focal point, she advises.

“Many like the look of tailored blinds or pleated shades. Remember to keep the colours of the blinds or shades to a neutral colour as well,” she explained.

 All of our friendly local advisors carry with them child safety devices, which can be fitted in your home to keep cords out of the way of children. When you have a Hillarys Advisor in your home simply tell them which rooms you would like child safety devices fitted and we will do so free of charge.

 In addition we advise the following:

* Use cordless blinds in children’s bedrooms, Hillarys suggest choosing pleated blinds with tab opening to ensure no cords at all

*Move beds and cribs away from windows or any furniture that children can climb on

* Only buy blinds manufactured after 2001 – when the new safety regulations came in, every single Hillarys blind is made-to-measure to your exact requirements

* Keep all cords out of reach of children

*Opt for wands rather than cords on products like Venetian blinds

*Use metal cleats that fix to the wall to tie loose cords around

*For the conservatory we offer the option of remote controlled blinds so there’s no cords hanging down to worry about
