We understand the impact curtains or blinds can have on a room – providing the perfect finishing touch to an understated interior scheme or the focal point to a statement look if your tastes are a little bolder.
But if you’re unsure of the type of window dressing to choose for your home, don’t limit yourself to one. Layering up is a bit trend right now that’s not just appropriate for high street fashion. Everyone knows a bed, piled high with pillows, cushions and throws is more appealing than a simple duvet. Take the same approach when it comes to your windows too and treat yourself to a curtain-blind combo!
Roman blinds and curtains are a great place to start. The soft, fully-lined fabrics sit comfortably alongside each other for a warm and cosy feel. Choose co-ordinating fabrics for a neat appearance or mix things up a little with contrasting designs that create a more eclectic feel.
Need a few examples? Well stripes are a classic look and our curtains range is packed full of gorgeous designs. Pick out one of the colours from the stripes for a co-ordinating Roman blind. Not only will this look great but it will also help stop draughts coming in through your windows. So practical too.
Florals are a timeless favourite, with designs ranging from the very traditional to the more abstract and contemporary. A sensible approach when working with patterned curtains would be to contrast with a plain Roman. But if you love the current craze for all things chinzy, try combining two completely different designs. Warning – this approach is only for the very brave and you must make sure the colours in the two designs go together to avoid a complete catastrophe!
Of course, Romans aren’t the only blinds available. Rollers are another great choice to use alongside curtains, particularly in bedrooms where you may need a really dark environment to get off to sleep. Pick a blackout fabric for your Roller blind. When it’s pulled up it’ll be really discreet, in fact you’ll hardly notice it and your curtains will take centre stage. But when it’s pulled down and the curtains are closed you’ll have a lovely dark room.
Alternatively, try a sheer Roller blind if you’re fed up of tired-looking net curtains but still need a little privacy in the day. Simple and neat, sheer Roller blinds will let the light in during the day while keeping prying eyes out. But of course you’ll need your curtains for the night-time to get things cosy and to protect your modesty when the lights get switched on.
Still not convinced? Here are a few other suggestions:
Wood Venetian blinds are naturally beautiful. Try softening their appearance by adding tape and co-ordinate with fully-lined curtains for a luxurious feel.
Pleated blinds are available in sheer and blackout fabrics, as well as options that filter the light into the room beautifully. The overall effect is lovely; carefully chosen curtains will add soft folds to cleverly contrast with the neat blind pleats.
Verticals blinds are perfectly practical – a great choice for giving your control over light and privacy. But some people think they’re just for the workplace. Combine with curtains for the best of both worlds.
