Most popular question

How do I keep my blind operating cords out of reach of children?

All our blinds come with safety devices that your advisor will fit free of charge. These secure your blind cords to keep them out of the reach of children. If your blinds have already been fitted – even if you didn’t buy them from Hillarys – we will provide you with up to four child safety devices free of charge. Simply go to ring 1800 882 917 to request yours. If you don’t have children living in your home, it’s still important to follow our safety advice if any children are visiting.

To prevent children from being able to climb up on the windowsill, keep beds, cots or furniture away from the window.  It’s vital that blind controls are kept out of reach and a safety cleat is installed. Fasten the cord to the cleat so it is tucked neatly and securely out of the way.

I have an unusual shaped window – which product would be best for this?

Pleated blinds are ideal for roof windows, making them a popular product for conservatories or glass extensions. If you have sloped windows, Vertical blinds can be made to fit these. Or if you have feature windows - such as arched windows - we have a range of shutters available which fit these beautifully.

Which product would be best for my bathroom?

Bathrooms are humid spaces with special requirements. It’s important to bear this in mind when choosing a window dressing. Our PVC Vertical blinds are water resistant, which makes them ideal for steamy environments. They are also easy to wipe clean. Alternatively, our Wood Illusions range is perfect if you love the look of Wood Venetian blinds, but want a product that will not warp in humid conditions. Our waterproof Henley shutters have also been designed with bathrooms and wetrooms in mind.

Which product would be best for my conservatory?

Our range of Pleated blinds in performance fabrics are ideal for conservatories. They have been designed to keep the temperature down over the summer months and retain any heat when it’s cold outside. Pleated blinds are perfect for conservatory roofs as they can be made fit different shaped windows. For the sides of your conservatory, you could select Pleated blinds in a complementary or contrasting fabric. Alternatively, you can choose from our full range of blinds.

My conservatory becomes quite chilly over the winter. Is there any way to keep it warm?

Made-to-measure blinds can help keep draughts at bay in your conservatory. In particular, our range of Pleated blinds in performance fabrics work to retain heat in your home. You could select Pleated blinds for your conservatory roof and choose from our full range of blinds for the sides. Fully-lined Roman blinds are great for creating a warm and cosy environment.

Which product would be best for my bay window?

Stunning shutters really enhance the look of a bay window. If you want blinds for your bay, our range of Verticals can be made with a bespoke curved headrail. Alternatively, you could have one made-to-measure blind fitted at each window. Curtains also look lovely in large windows and their tracks can be fitted to follow the shape of the bay.

My room catches the sun, which sometimes makes it blindingly bright – which product would you suggest?

We’ve a wide range of products which work to filter the light. Vertical and Venetian blinds - including Wood Venetians - provide fingertip control over any sunlight entering your room. Roller and Pleated blinds are available in sheer fabrics, which softly diffuse the light to create a lovely ambience. Shutters are another great option, as you can tilt the louvres to let a small amount of sunlight into your room, or throw them open as required.

I can’t decide between the practicality of a blind and the luxurious feel of a curtain. What would you suggest?

It sounds as though a Roman blind would be perfect for you. They are made from the same soft fabrics as our range of curtains and are fully-lined for a luxurious look.

My period home has original sash windows which I want to make a feature out of. What would you suggest?

Stylish shutters are a great option for sash windows. Their timeless looks are perfect for period properties. What’s more, shutters are practical too – providing fingertip control over privacy when closed, but opening up to show off your feature window when desired.

There’s an unsightly view when I look out of my window – how should I disguise this?

A well-fitted blind can disguise an unsightly view without blocking out the light. Vertical and Venetian blinds - including Wood Venetians - can be tilted to let light in while hiding your unwanted view at the same time.
